Stef Collections

Tell us a little about the origins of Stef Collections.

Having practised architecture for the past few years and being immersed in the larger scale and longer period of the creative process, Stef Collections was borne out of our desire for a creative outlet that is more instantaneous and that involved creating directly with our own hands. The passion for design and experimentation drove us to explore new materials and techniques, creating the many stef pieces that you now see.
Describe your creative process.
We approach each piece with a determination to keep on experimenting and pushing the boundaries. Be it the properties of a material or the limits of an idea. From the moment of inspiration, we test it again and again, making several prototypes and spending several nights refining each piece until we feel that we have got it. Then we wake up the next day and we turn it upside down and realise we have to repeat the process once more. Designing and experimenting always feels like it will never end but every time we know we have finally got there, it is for us, one of the most gratifying moments, especially as a team.
What inspires you the most?
The pieces are our way of of seeing ordinary things in a new light so we get really excited and inspired when we find that creative twist to the simple things in life. This may be challenging the way accessories can be worn or how homeware can be used to how anyone can add their own personal touches, extending the design process beyond the artist. The stef pieces also embody all of our other passions such as in drawing, travelling and photography but the best is when it is just a simple everyday thing turned upside down!
Name some of your most favourite local artists and designers.
What are your ultimate dreams for Stef Collections?
It is our dreams to create many more stef pieces and to be able to share it with as many people as possible. We love to do what we do, for the most part anyway, so we really love it when someone else loves the pieces as much as we do. We want to share our excitement for seeing things in a different way, that everything does not need to be what they seem to be. Most importantly for us however is that the stef pieces will continue, for a long time to come, to just be able to make someone smile and brighten their day each day
