Tell us a little about the origins of Scattered Ants.
Scattered Ants has been bubbling away at the back of my mind ever since I first picked up a pair of pliers when I was 18. I’ve had an on-again off-again relationship with jewellery making and have tried many non-creative pursuits in between, none of which satisfied my need to make and create! I’ve been making jewellery for my friends and myself for a while and am now trying my luck with the great unknown…..

Describe your creative process.
The name Scattered Ants eludes to my creative process. Scattered by name, scattered by nature I guess you’d say. I don’t follow a particular pattern or routine when creating a piece. Sometimes I wish I would because this can lead to me becoming side-tracked with multiple designs at once but I love the doing. The process. It’s like my meditation.

What inspires you the most?
Reading all the art, craft and design magazines at my parent’s newsagency, DIY bloggers especially Elsie and Emma from A Beautiful Mess, my super talented artistic friends, exploring the streets of Melbourne, Aztec patterns, stealing ‘street treats’ and finding new uses for them.

Name some of your most favourite local artists and designers.
I love the artwork of Kirra Jamison, and Beci Orpin, Marie B‘s handmade real flower jewellery, Lisa Xu‘s beautiful handmade hats and fascinators…..I could go on all day here. The talent in this town is amazing.

What are your ultimate dreams for Scattered Ants?
To be able to invest more time into creating handmade beauties and maybe one day have an accessories line too. So many options but the main aim is to keep on enjoying it!
