Tell us a little about yourself using a Haiku.
Nail art obsessed
Creating things makes me whole
Big perfectionist
Tell us a little about the origins of Critter Claws.
I started playing around with designs on my nails and soon, friends and family were asking me to do their nails. What started off as a bit of fun became an obsession. Critter Claws was born a few months ago, after lots of planning, brainstorming and designing.
Describe your creative process.
I have a long list of ideas brewing in my head of nail designs I want to create. When I create a new design, sometimes I might use good ol’ Google image to look for pop culture references (such as a cartoon character for a nail design), roughly sketch out what the design might look like, then start painting! But a lot of the time I just dive straight into the painting without doing any research or sketches, since ideas have been brewing in my head for so long.
What inspires you the most?
I’m a pop culture junkie and love music, fashion, 90s nostalgia, old cartoons and books, and this translates into my nail art, whether it be album covers of music I’m listening to, or a print from one of my favourite clothing items. I’m also inspired by anything whimsical and cute!
Name some of your most favourite local artists and designers.
Two amazing artists:Creature Creature and Cameron Brideoake
A graphic designer whose work is minimal and sleek: Peter Borg
A papercraft designer who does some really cool things: Kitiya Palaskas
