Tell us a little about the origins of Lowglo Luminaires.
In about 1998, I saw a mushroom in a garden with the light behind it and wondered what it would look like if it was lit up. The results were ordinary but promising. That started many years of research to find the best materials and techniques to produce mushrooms with the colours and warm glow that they have. We sold our first settings in 2010. From then, we have further developed techniques of modelling, colour and light control so that we can present a fair representation of nature and its wonder.

Describe your creative process.
My creative process is largely derived from walking in the bush and looking at the detail and the interplay of light in the natural world. Images come to mind and I create the mushrooms and settings to reflect that image.

What inspires you the most?
My major inspiration is the natural world. I have been walking in the bush since I was a child and have always been fascinated in the seemingly simple large view contrasted with the fantastic detail of the small. My other inspiration is the sun at sunrise and sunset for the fantastic palette of colours. To be a means of bringing the wonders of the natural world to a set on your dining room table and have you engage with it, is a beautiful and humbling experience.

Name some of your most favourite local artists and designers.
My favourite artists are ex-pat Australians: Jeffrey Smart for his wonderful sense of colour and form; Ron Muec k for his incredible skills at hyper-realism and his sense of space in large and small.

What are your ultimate dreams for Lowglo Luminaires?
My ultimate dream for Lowglo is two-fold: to be able to bring to the world the beauty of nature in our mushrooms and other forms we are developing, and to be able to do large commissioned works in a hyper realist fashion.

What will will we find from Lowglo Luminaires at our August Bend and Snap Market?
In the August Bend and Snap Market we will bring mushroom sets ranging from small sets with colour and a sense of wonder through classic Fairy mushroom settings to large free-standing tree stumps full of glowing mushrooms.
