We speak with Argentinian traveler, fashion and textile designer, muralist and jeweler Sabri Dursi.
Tell us a little about yourself using a Haiku.
From here and there
treasures come together
walk, look, see
Tell us a little about the origins of Sabri Dursi.
I’ve studied fashion design in Buenos Aires and as soon as I finished Uni (6 years ago) I went traveling. It was gonna be for a year but I’m still on the move. Along all those years, those places and those moments I’ve turned into a treasure hunter. Looking out for beautiful things that combined with my own style comes out to be a different thing. There’s a story behind every object, every piece of jewellery, every stone. I try to express myself by many ways , they go on a huge range, of course, but when you look at it, it just comes all together. I want to do that, to use it all, to put it all, to mix it all, to find it all. That’s how I started to do it and that is my process.
Describe your creative process.
The objects come to me, they get me. I’ve chosen every stone for a reason and when I pick them back, I just try to find the place and the way they should take. I find out more about every stone and then I start from there. For me the design comes from the inspiration and the feeling I get, that’s it…
What inspires you the most?
People inspires me the most. Everywhere, every time, and any day.
Name some of your most favourite local artists and designers.
I’m not too sure about that one, I have only been in the country for 2 months (I am Argentinian, have I mentioned it?) but I can well tell you about a few people I really admire around the world.
La Coperacha. I’ve met him in India, we did a collaboration together. Amazing guy, amazing art.
Isaacson & Graphics. I’ve met him in India too, one of the most especial persons I’ve ever met. A very talented man, a Chilean beauty.
What are your ultimate dreams for Sabri Dursi?
I want to do what I do, what I like. My ultimate dream is having a store with all gorgeous things from all over, home of a studio where all the magic happens. By the sea of course…
What will will we find from Sabri Dursi at our August Bend and Snap Market?
You’ll find a little selection of things that I’ve made in Buenos Aires, just before coming to here at the studio of my my amazing Master, Sarkis Aschian. Diverse stones and pieces with a life and a soul.
