Run Wild Horses

We speak with Sharee from Run Wild Horses.

Tell us a little about the origins of Run Wild Horses.

I was always a creative child, drawing, painting and making jewellery for family and friends, however life took me in a different direction once I finished school. I began making jewellery again in the mid-2000’s as creative escape from the hum drum routine of 9 to 5 corporate office life, creating cute little necklaces from vintage and repurposed materials and selling them at markets around Melbourne. I had such a great response from these market that it soon became a full time job. Run Wild Horses was born in January 2007 and we’ve creating unique vintage and steampunk inspired treasures ever since.

Describe your creative process.

I’m always on the look out materials, i’m constantly buying vintage pieces to rework and storing then in my studio. Each design comes together a little like constructing a jigsaw puzzle, matching the right dial or mechanism with a complementing charm or key or vintage knick-knack . Often designs remain unfinished in my studio for months even years on occasion waiting for the final little gear or cog to complete the piece.

What inspires you the most?

The materials themselves. I love the idea of using materials that might otherwise have been thrown away. The thought that the watch movement or dial i’m working with had a story before it came to me, it could have been someone else’s treasured possession, a piece passed from one family member to another, a wedding gift or Christmas present and now i’m giving the piece a new life to be passed on again, this I find very inspiring.

Name some of your most favourite local artists and designers.

Zen Moments soy wax candles are just divine.

Nadine Turner‘s illustrations are mesmerising.

And my house is full of Winter Builts handiwork.
What are your ultimate dreams for Run Wild Horses?

Our dream is to open retail store in our home area of South Gippsland. We plan to stock the shop full of all my handmade goodies, jewellery, homewares and wedding supplies along with selected hand crafted works from other Victorian artisans. We hope to have a space big enough to have a workshop out the back for me to create in and an area to run classes and workshops.
