Tell us a little about the origins of Chinpin.
Allegra, Emma and Emily came together to form Chinpin, an exhibition based off the traditional cabinet of curiosity. This was a 16th century equivalent to the modern museum. Furthermore, these cabinets were a reflection on how the collector perceived and related to the world around them. We are bringing together 20 of Melbourne’s most talented emerging artists. We chose these artists because they have a unique vision and understanding of the natural world.
Being part of the creative industry, while rewarding, can be competitive and challenging. It is hard to find your place and make your mark as an emerging artist. We not only wanted to create a platform for other emerging artists to promote their work but also collaborate with talented artists that we find so inspiring!

Describe your creative process.

All of the artists involved have unique ways of creating art. This diversity compliments our theme and will make for a entirely new and unique show! Chinpin will feature an eclectic array of art. From static forms of art, such as painting and print to more interactive outputs such as sculpture and video.

What inspires you the most?

Nature! We are constantly inspired by the world around us. The artists involved, while all drawn to different aspects of nature, all interpret this theme with imagination and gusto!
