Tell us a little about yourself using a Haiku.
My passion is knitting
Hooked in crochet
Tell us a little about the origins of Hook and Hop.
I am an anywhere knitter, I noticed that people became very curious at what I was doing with my Tee yarn and chunky needles or big crochet hooks, either in the train or by the beach. Most people wonder what I am doing so I tell them and offer them a go, and they just loved it!
So I started to think about making kits for beginners, about making it easier for others to get “hooked” on crochet and knitting. I just put upcycled Tshirt-Yarn and the chunky wooden needles or hook into a bag together with an easy and modern pattern and Voila!! Hook and Hop came to life last September.
Tee-Yarn (#tshirt-yarn) is very easy to use and it’s a great material to make homewares, accessories, clothing and anything you can imagine!
Describe your creative process.
My creative process is really a mystery. As soon as I have an idea I need to grab my Tee yarn and my needles, do my maths with pencil and paper and turn it into a reality. Sometimes I am just working on a project and halfway through I get an inspiration and just have to try it and if it looks like what I have just pictured in my mind then I just keep going until it is finished and then I restart what I was doing in first place.
What inspires you the most?
The idea of making easy to follow patterns is my real inspiration, so that others can fall in love with crochet and knit craft. The colours and the texture the Tee-yarn are my best inspiration. Each Tee-shirt yarn cone is unique and versatile, with its own personality. They are made out of the left overs of a manufacturing process so they might look the same but if you observe them you can appreciated their imperfections, the variety in tones and width which is great when you want to create something with its unique character.
Name some of your most favourite local artists and designers.
